TMNet Streamyx Cheating on Their Customers

TMNet Streamyx Cheating the Consumers

The past 2 month TMNet Streamyx began to throttle the p2p sharing until the now, without any official announcement and any early inform to their customers. TMNet control our usage on the p2p by blocking the international gateway of our connection and set the p2p sharing to the lowest priority which cause our p2p sharing client running at a very low speed, so that their bandwidth can become smoother and prevent from getting complaint from the other user regarding their slow speed connection. Where these people are among those who never use p2p sharing.

As a consumer I feel cheated and felt depressed to their services which is so lousy and so greedy. As I call to TMNet Streamyx helpdesk and seek for explanation or solution, they gave me the reason as below;

1. Because 20% of the p2p users are using 80% of the overall bandwidth and causing the latency of the overall system.

2. TMNet Streamyx never support any p2p client, which the customers use for their file sharing.

3. Sorry sir we are temporary out of bandwidth, the upgrading is in progress. We can assure you the throttle were just a temporary solution. But we don’t know when is the upgrading will be finish.

4. If you did not satisfied with our services, go terminate it at the nearest TM point. Don’t use it anymore!!!

Hereby, I would like to fight for the right for us as a consumers. I purchase this Streamyx 1 MB basic package 1 year ago which is an unlimited broadband services to work as a uploader and some experiment project on the p2p, yet TMNet Streamyx throttle the p2p just because it consume too more than 80% of their bandwidth. For this I think TMNet should find a solution which is to upgrade their bandwidth so that their server can support this hardcore usage of p2p sharing from overall users in Malaysia. There is no right for TMNet to blame on the customer for overuse their bandwidth since we purchase the unlimited services and we have the right to use on whatever we need as long as we don’t offence the legacy and law.

Secondly, TMNet say they never support for any p2p sharing from the very beginning. As I read through the Terms of Services for 3 times inside the application form for TMNet Streamyx , I found no statement that mentioned about this. For the past 1 year my p2p sharing experiment and uploading running with blazing speed which the speed can goes up to 160 kilobits per second with the international IP were active, after the throttle I can only get 2-10 kilobits per second where all the international IP were in the list but there were no interaction between me (local IP) and them (international IP). The sharing only allow to local (Malaysia) users, whereby my project is to run on the global users not only in Malaysia.

Thirdly, TMnet tells us that they are running out of bandwidth. Yet they still promoting their Streamyx 1 MB package in the television and look for more customers to apply for it. Why they want to get more and more people to sign up for it since they are running out of bandwidth, I felt curious this.

Besides, the attitude of TMNet Staff are very rude and very disturbance. As mentioned above.

For all of these I made calls to the customers interaction centre of TMNet Streamyx, but they never give me any solution yet they ignored my calls as well. I even file a complaint at Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) but TMNet never reply to our complaint. They just simply ignore it just like they always do to most of the customers whoever called to their technical support hotline. I once experience this where I was hold on line for more than 40 minutes and I cut off the line myself.

After a lots of calls and complaints to TMNet and CFM, i felt fed up and disappointed. TMNet just simply ignore all calls and complaints, my email to the management of TMNet were also ignored and most probably were defined as junk mail.

This issues was also a hot topic at a local internet forum (www.lowyat.net), you can read all topic concern under the broadband – user 2 user subforum.

The worst thing is that our Minister of Energy, Communication and Multimedia, YB. Dato’ Seri Lim Keng Yaik, never take concern and action on this matters. I believe that I’m not the first person here to complaint on this, some are even published in the newspaper before. Yet the Ministries and Ministers do nothing.

Hereby, I post my blog just to bring this matters up to the public to prevent TMNet Streamyx to cheat more people to purchase their services. Thank you.

You said "The past 2 month TMNet Streamyx began to throttle the p2p sharing until the now, without any official announcement and any early inform to their customers."

Then, based on what source that you knew they did this in the first place?
Nice one dude..I love it!!

Maybe we should really go for other ISPs and leave Streamyx..

And other countries can have more than 20Mbps for home users..why can't Streamyx do that!!

And Streamyx is STILL using Copper wires..
It should be noted that Streamyx actively promotes broadband as a way to allow people to view movies and listen to songs online. While that *can* be achieved without using P2P, the bandwidth load would still be the same per user; one person downloading an indie song or a fan-made movie through P2P would still use the same bandwidth as he would if he were downloading it from some commercial server.

Granted, the number of people who do the latter is far less than the number of people who do the former, but people will eventually gravitate to them even if P2P is permanently blocked instead of throttled completely. Hence, this alleged throttling by Streamyx is a temporary measure against an effect that will be far worse when it inevitably returns later, since Streamyx has been actively promoting broadband to the populace even as it does little to alleviate the basic bandwidth problems that it is now suffering.
Might I add that even after trottling the connection, most people still recieve poor service from streamyx. I know many people who have subscribed for Streamyx, but the speeds they get are that of dial-up, dial up is more worth it in the sense that you don't get disconnected as often as streamyx. We paid for the bandwith, isn't it fair that we get what we paid for?

I too am a P2P program user, now what used to be lightning fast download speeds are now slower than a tortoise. Some of the P2P programs I use allow encryption and this has helped me a lot in the battle for more bandwith but most of my P2P programs don't. Even gaming has slowed down causing me to get disconnected in a heated fire fight, seriously dissappointing. Shouldn't it be wise that Streamyx should REALLY upgrade their servers to support the growing number of subscribers? And not trottling the connection. Eventually the amount of subscribers would reach a point that even trottling won't help, so why not just upgrade the service now and let us get what we paid for.

You dont use p2p do you? This info about p2p throttling you can get from TMnet workers themselves (insider info) or you can complain through their hotline 1-300-88-9515 and tell them you are a p2p user and they will tell you the same.

Ever tried the Consumer Tribunal? I once lodged a complaint on Jaring with the tribunal and it got solved in a jiffy. In fact, Jaring didn't want to be called to the tribunal, they called me up before the 'hearing' date and settled! I dunno about outstation, but in KL, it's at The Mall. Worth a try.
i already try everythig i can as what i mentioned in my blog above, just felt fed up and pathetic.....just wish there were some new ISP to be bring in to Sarawak.....haiz.....
Hi there,
Although this post is kinda outdated, I would like to voice my comments.

1) TmNet customer service (1-300-88-9515) totally denies the fact that they are throttling P2P bandwidth. Quoting the customer service rep "TmNet doesn't block any P2P application ... "

2) During the use of P2P programs (bittorrent), the streamyx line frequently drops. This will prevent any packets from being transmitted / received but the status remains "connected". Disconnecting and re-establishing the connection does not help. The only solution is to power cycle (switch off and on) the modem and then reconnect.

Note: This line dropping does not happen at all if I am not using P2P. My connection can be up for weeks at one time but once P2P is used / detected, the line drop will be frequent.

Question here is,

1.why is TmNet denying that they are throttling / blocking P2p. Is it so difficult to tell the truth. I guess they are not brave enough to face the public.

2. Why resort to wicked tactics of "line dropping" when P2P is detected. Is it to prevent the auto redial mechanism in routers and the dailup programs?

In my opinion, TmNet is only interested in profits and do not care even if it is not fair to the customers. It is only still standing because we malaysians do not have much choices.

Also, can anyone please reply to this blog if they have ever got their "rebate" that TmNet offers when the service is down. I was told different stories by the customer service reps everytime I try to claim my rebate. Looks like another empty promise from TmNet.
Hello,

It does not take a rocket scientist to guess that there is a throttling or shaping of bandwidth when using a P2P.

P2P is not used only for sharing illegal stuff. We also use it to share things that belong to us such as our own developed software and perhaps pictures or even video's we made during our last holidays .

Anyway, I am not worried since other products are now available in the market and since WE customers have the right to choose who to buy from.

May the market decide ;)

Good day.
