Expenses, Cost, Income, Salaries, Budget, Inflation; is there any relation between these words? Do these words give you any image? The first thing which will be drawn in your mind is your life. Your life is the main thing which is depended on all of the above mentioned words. You work to earn salary, your salary will be your income, you have to buy goods and products for your life which are expenses, the cost of the goods and products should meet your budget and of course all these will be influenced by inflation. These are the daily routine issues that every one is dealing and thinking. People work to make their life better. They think about different ways to save their money. They may look for economical supermarkets to buy their groceries with more reasonable prices.  When they are going to buy a car, their concern will be the fuel consumption of the vehicle enabling them to save more fuel. As German people say: “They are not that rich to buy cheap stuff”. People think about the quality and the price at the same time. Smart people follow what German say and they never buy cheap stuff because buying cheap stuff pushes them to change it time to time. On the other hand, if people buy their goods with high quality those products last longer so they will be saving their money.

Nowadays, people are looking for better ways to save the energy. Because of inflation, the electricity charges increased. Especially in hot countries like Malaysia, people are thinking about how to save their electricity power and still be comfort in their houses under the air conditioners.

One of the main and important issues which help us to save the energy within our houses is the way our doors, windows and walls are designed and constructed.  The construction companies should really think about this issue when they are tendering a project. In some countries the municipalities’ rules and regulations are very restricted. Their inspectors check the status of the construction progress time to time. Construction companies should receive the approval any time the inspection is going on, enabling them to start the new section. In such countries the quality controlling is one of the main concerns of municipalities. As a contractor you are advised to use good quality materials instead of cheap one. And in case of failure to do so, the contractor will be in trouble. However, in some other countries, still quality controlling is not the important issue.

The above photos show the real meaning of a careless contractor and a careless inspector. What you have just seen in the above photos are just external issues that we are able to figure out while concentrating our houses’ construction problems. Such windows are just wasting all our houses’ energy. The gap between the windows frames not only shifts the inside and outside weather easily also such a big gap allows pest and insects to enter our houses. The following are responsible for such fault:

1-      The carpenter who has designed and produced such doors and windows.

2-      The contractor who didn’t care about the quality of his job by ignoring this problem.

3-      And the most goes to the inspector from municipality who either didn’t do his job properly or ignored this matter purposely.

Such these problems happen usually in high towers and buildings within condominiums. Since, the job is big so its profit also is high. The first thing the careless contractors might think of is to earn more money by hiring cheap subcontractors and buying cheaper materials. In huge amounts like more than thousands if you pay less you earn more.

Imagine a condominium with 4 blocks, 20 floors and 16 flats and in every floor if we consider 5 water tabs, if a contractor buys the cheap water tabs instead of the good quality one which its price is almost half, with an easy calculation on the paper we can figure out the profit which this greedy contractor earns. Not to ignore that this profit is just from buying the water tab which is one of the thousands required material.

Those who just think about profit are the one who never think about the quality of their job, their name in the market, their credit and the important thing about the people who want to live in such buildings. All these happen because there is no one to control perfectly the contractors’ job. The inspectors are not doing their responsibility properly and they just provide approvals for different part of the jobs. It is the municipality’s responsibility to control their employees’ productivity and work. Unfortunately, they don’t give required attention to this matter.

The main issue is why when governments and municipalities without any additional charges can organize and control people’s life and comfort and also can take care of the natural resources and energies, THEY DON’T DO IT?  By considering some rules and regulations and hiring loyal inspectors they can easily control this important issue.  Announcing some standards for construction can prevent the cheap material usage in construction field and no can settle these standards except governments and municipalities. Construction quality control not only saves and parsimony the energies also it brings more comfort to every citizen’s life.
